At FamTech.org, our members are reimagining what care can look like—through innovation, lived experience, and purpose-driven action.
This spotlight features one of the founders shaping the future of the Care Economy, sharing the personal story behind their startup, the challenges they’re tackling, and how this community has helped along the way.
Meet Sunlit Live
Hema Ramaswamy is the founder of Sunlit Live, a centralized, AI-enabled platform that empowers family caregivers to orchestrate and streamline senior care with confidence.
Drawing from her own lived experience as a caregiver navigating the fragmented care systems, Hema launched Sunlit Live to demystify the complex care journeys surrounding senior care—bringing accessibility, structure, ease, and peace of mind to families across the country.
What inspired you to start your company?
After losing our father, my siblings and I became my mother’s caregiver—and quickly saw how fragmented the senior care system is. When our mother’s health declined, in that moment of crisis.
I built a framework that centralized her records into structured contextual data that resulted in transforming her health and our family’s quality of life. The unified data resulted in her stopping her insulin and reducing her medications by 60%.
This sparked our mission. We want to bring that framework to other caregivers.
What core problem are you solving, and for whom?
Senior caregiving is confusing, chaotic and often ends up in a crisis. The recent 2025 report, “Caregiving in the US”, released by National Caregiving Alliance and AARP, reports that:
- 63 million family caregivers in the US who dedicate over 27 hours per week on average (that’s more than half of the work week) are navigating senior care, juggling 7+ fragmented care systems while managing their own lives
- 89% of them have had no formal training and are piecing things together as they go along
- 31 million (50%) report job disruptions and productivity loss
- 70% report burnout and drain from both time and money
Our research shows that a lot of the situations leading to that time-money drain can be avoided by having a centralized family caregiver platform with the ability to manage the different moving parts of the care journeys from there.

What’s your solution, and how is it different?
Our solution, Sunlit Live is the first senior care focused AI-enabled centralized geriatric care platform that guides family caregivers to navigate senior care journeys with confidence.
It provides:
- Expert-created geriatric care playbooks that have been tried and tested in professional settings
- AI-processed digital vault for forms, files, and records, avoiding looking up many files and folders
- Caregiver community recommended provider directory (usually this is word of mouth)
- Shared care coordination hub
And the platform aims to:
- Reduce up to 11 hours/week of busywork
- Save families ~$2,000/month from fewer errors and rework
- Reduce burnout and improve quality of life for both the senior and the caregiver
- Bring peace of mind to everyone
What’s a milestone or moment you’re proud of?
We recently launched Sunlit Live v1 at the Aging in Texas Conference during our talk “Silicon and Soul: Rewiring the Way Texans Provide Care Through Technology and Interprofessional Wisdom.”
We showcased how families and care professionals across Texas can simplify caregiving through smart coordination tools, AI-enabled care playbooks, and centralized records—all built to support the real-world caregiving journeys that millions navigate every day.
We’re especially grateful to co-present with University of Texas at Austin’s School of Social Work faculty, who validated our approach and emphasized how technology like Sunlit Live can strengthen collaborative care models and empower families.
We also received validation from the social workers and community health organizations attending the conference, who affirmed both the urgency of the problem and that our solution is heading in the right direction.
Have you raised funding? If so, how has that impacted your growth?
What feels like the biggest challenge or opportunity in the Care Economy right now?
Everyone sees it coming—the tidal wave of caring for the aging population. The challenge and the opportunity are one and the same: we need big mission aligned investments to meet the growing need.
Despite the $600B in unpaid labor and a multi billion dollar market opportunity, caregiving innovation remains underfunded and underserved by tech and capital funds. This impact shows up as employee productivity decline, strain in government systems, rise in healthcare and long-term care costs, declining health from burnout and anxiety and stress for all.
People who invest will have a first-mover advantage and opportunity to become market leader, especially in integrated solution space.
How has FamTech.org helped with your initiative?
As a first-time entrepreneur and in a sector that is overlooked, I spent a long time searching for resources that truly aligned with our mission.
Care Economy startups are frequently misunderstood or overshadowed under broad ‘healthcare’ categories. FamTech.org helped us rise above with curated tools, research, and connections to mission-aligned partners.
It brought clarity, focus, and community to those of us building to improve the quality of life for families. I’m deeply grateful to FamTech.org for amplifying our mission.

What’s next for you—and what do you need?
We are currently seeking funding from mission-aligned investors and foundations to build out Sunlit Live’s UI/UX workflows and AI-powered features for general availability—with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, trust and scale.
In parallel, we’re pursuing partnerships and pilot programs with aging service providers, geriatric care managers, and home care agencies. These collaborations will help us validate and refine the platform in real-world settings.
Our next milestone is to measure and publish impact—including hours saved, costs avoided, and improved care outcomes—to demonstrate the tangible value Sunlit Live brings to families and the broader care ecosystem.
